The Dessert Edition
The second dessert I made was apple pie (well the end result was an apple crumble).
For the base: 1 1/2 cup almond meal, 1/2 cup coconut oil and 1/4 tsp salt.
Add the coconut oil and salt to the almond meal and mix.
Then keep adding water tsp by tsp till you get a dough like texture.
Chop 3 cooking apples and add 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. Toss it abou till all the apples are coated with the spices. Chop one Tbsp of butter into small pieces and place then on the apples.
Roll out dough and put in on pie dish. Place chopped apples and butter and lay them out on the pie dish.
Pre heat oven to 190 degrees C and bake for 35 minutes.
The pie has all the flavour and aroma of grandma’s apple crumble. Hot and real.
The thing about primal desserts are that they may never taste as gooey and decadent as the real thing, but hey.. it’s way worth the ‘sacrifice’.
Have you made Primal desserts yet? What do you think? Real food over the ‘Real’ stuff or the Asli Maal as we say?
You should try to calculate the carb/protein/fat content of these desserts and share the results. And if the desserts have significantly lower carb content than ‘regular’ counterparts, you can talk about why that is desirable.
Chocolate, honey, bananas, apples, etc. all have suger in their own right. Did you know that 2 bananas have more sugar than a snickers bar?
Good idea to calculate the carb/ protein/ fat content!! will do that…
lower carb content being desirable is a separate post and will tackle that sometime soon.
sugar from real food is ok in dessert I think. If not then don’t experiment with primal desserts because they will have higher carb and sugar content than other primal foods…
Thanks for the ideas!
Ally, where do I get almond flour and other such ingredients, please share some details…thanks!
Almond flour is nothing but putting almonds in a mixer and pulverising until u get a flour like consistency. Not too course but not too smooth that it becomes almond butter. Put almonds in a mixer and grind. We don’t get almond flour here so I make do with this without blanching almonds. Abroad the almond flour has blanched almonds.
