‘Low Fat’ is the enemy
In my post on real food I tried to explain why we should shun processed foods labelled ‘low fat’, ‘heart healthy’. and the chemicals that go into packages. I tried to explain how cholesterol is good and only when mixed with bad elements from processed foods does inflammation occur and this is the root cause for heart desease.
Why then did saturated fat and cholesterol get the bad rep? Watch this video.
But nothing that I wrote can explain the entire concept so beautifully and simply than this article by a heart surgeon shared below..
Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

eye opener!
I’m so glad! 🙂
haha i just make sure i buy only low fat stuff thinking its the only thing to eat … check http://www.sehat.com for more health tips:)
Low fat is the wrong way to go. Full fat from natural sources like animal fat, red meat, full fat dairy, coconut oil is the way to go for good health.
Hi Aloka
Interesting read. i try to balance it because I know when I eat Indian or cook food at home, I usually add olive oil or coconut manna (its a ground coconut butter by NUtiva…Yum!! I know we can get super tender coconut in INdia and grind it) so when I eat lean chicken I dont add anything but this butter…as I want to not overwhelm myself with all the crazy choices, I compromise with 2% yogurt (hubby drinks 2%milk and I make dahi from that) and I drink Almond mIlk…so that I dont give up coz I have to separate 100% from my Family’s choices!!! Whatever works right!! Finding the balance is key…
Have a nice day!!!

Hi manasa,
Yes finding the balance is key.
As long as you know where you’re compromising and to know exactly what you’re doing you will be fine.
It’s only when you think, due to skewed data, that you are being healthy by drinking slim milk from a package and eating food cooked in ‘heart healthy’ vegetable oils is when the trouble starts.
Take care!
nice article
thank you
Yikes! Thanks Aloka, that’s one powerful article right there! Short but exposes many ugly truths about processed foods. I read a similar article that points out that having processed foods increases the risk of cancer & neurological side effects. Here is the link. I really do hope this helps people refrain from processed foods! http://bit.ly/CCUglyTruthOfProcessedFoods
Way to go with your blogs! Best Wishes..
thank you shweta!
